About Born to Be - OT

Helping children discover who they are and what they can do.

Born to Be – OT was created from a simple belief: every child has the right to feel safe, confident, and able to take part in life in a way that feels true to them.

I'm Amy Pretorius, a specialist paediatric occupational therapist with a postgraduate qualification in Sensory Integration, training in Sensory Attachment Intervention, and years of experience supporting children with a wide range of needs. My work spans schools, homes, and community settings, with particular expertise in:

  • Children with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Post-adoption support and children with early life adversity
  • Sensory processing and emotional regulation challenges
  • Supporting EHCP provision and assessment

I'm currently completing my MSc in Psychology, exploring how attachment and sensory processing shape the lived experiences of families raising children with ADHD. This research, combined with my hands-on therapy experience, deepens my understanding of the children and families I work with every day.

My approach is inspired by Wilcock's model of Doing, Being, and Becoming:

  • Doing – creating opportunities for children to take part in activities that build skills, confidence, and joy.
  • Being – giving children the space to feel safe, valued, and understood exactly as they are.
  • Becoming – supporting each child to grow into the person they are meant to be, at their own pace, in their own way.

At Born to Be – OT, therapy is never "just an appointment." It's a journey — one where we celebrate small steps, nurture resilience, and open up new possibilities for the future.

Born to be who you want to be.
