Occupational Therapy Assessment

The purpose of the assessment is to gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of your child's strengths and areas of difficulty. Depending on your child's needs, this can typically take between one and two hours.

During the assessment, a combination of standardised and non-standardised tools, clinical observations, and questionnaires are used to evaluate your child's motor, sensory, perceptual, and functional skills. Where helpful, visits to your child's school, nursery, or home may be arranged to observe how they function in different environments.

Following the assessment, a detailed report is provided, highlighting your child's strengths, identifying challenges, and offering tailored recommendations for support. This is followed by a discussion with you to explain the findings and next steps.  This report can be differentiated to provide specific recommendations for Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Adoption Support and Guardianship Fund (ASGF) applications.

Therapy

Therapy sessions are designed to be engaging and play-based, helping your child develop key skills while building confidence. Sessions can take place at school, home, or in the clinic, depending on what works best for your family and child’s needs.

The frequency and duration of therapy are personalised to each child's individual needs. Progress is regularly reviewed, with ongoing communication between parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in your child's care.

Structured activity programmes can also be provided for home or school, with guidance on how to implement them. These programmes are regularly monitored and adjusted to ensure continued support for your child's functional development.

Advice and Training

Tailored advice and training sessions are available for parents, teachers, and professionals. Topics can be customised to meet your specific needs, and may include areas such as child development, sensory processing, and strategies to help regulate alertness and attention.
